Local Partners
SHFPD works through, and alongside, several partner agencies rather than delivering emergency services directly.
The Ross Valley Fire Department (RVFD) has provided SHFPD's primary fire protection since 1982, evolving from a single non-voting board seat to two full voting seats as of 2010 — making SHFPD a full partner in regional fire service governance today.
Since 1982, SHFPD has also been a founding member of the Ross Valley Paramedic Authority (RVPA), which brings advanced life-support paramedic care to Ross Valley residents; every four years since 1982, SHFPD voters have reapproved the parcel tax funding RVPA's services.
The Marin County Fire Department (MCFD), SHFPD's original service provider from 1949 to 1956, remains a partner today through its Emergency Command Center, dispatch services, and Countywide hazard-mitigation projects.
SHFPD has also supported Fire Safe Marin (FSM) since its 1992 founding, and is a founding member-agency of the Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority (MWPA), established in 2020 to coordinate county-wide wildfire adaptation efforts.
