News From Sleepy Hollow Fire Protection District

Reminder: Free Chipper Days May 5 & 6

May 5-6, 2017, bring your freshly cut materials to the end of Butterfield Rd for free disposal (Sleepy Hollow residents only).  Our crews will help you unload and will dispose of cut material at no cost.  We will “chip” up to 5 cubic yards of freshly-cut limbs and brush between 1/2” and 8” diameter.  Soft material, raked leaves, and grass clipping can’t be chipped and must be disposed of in your green waste can.  This is a $150-$250 value!

Drop-off Chipper Days

Curbside Pick-up Chipper Days

Our crews will visit your home and pick up material (must be NEATLY stacked at your curbside, with cut ends facing the street).  Online registration is required, beginning 4 weeks prior to event at www.shfpd.org/chipper.  Up to 5 cubic yards of material will be disposed.  Additional material may be picked up if arranged in advance.

DRAFT 2017 Strategic Plan Released

Sleepy Hollow Fire Protection District has developed the DRAFT 2017 Strategic Plan to guide the District over the next five years.  The strategic planning process provides an opportunity for our Directors to clarify the District's mission, vision, and expectations.  The document should be viewed as a first step towards improving fire safety and emergency preparedness in our District.  

Please plan to attend the Saturday, April 22, 2017 meeting at 10:00 am to review and comment the DRAFT plan.

Sleepy Hollow Chipper Days 2017

NEXT CHIPPER DAY: MAY 5 & 6 (DROP-OFF ONLY)

Sleepy Hollow Fire Protection District and FIRESafe MARIN will conduct four chipper days in 2017!   The first will be a DROP-OFF chipper day Saturday, May 5 & 6, 2017.   Clean up your property to create defensible space and bring us your cut material - we'll dispose of the vegetation at no cost to you!  This service is available to Sleepy Hollow residents only.

DRAFT Wildfire Hazard & WUI AREA Assessment Published

The Sleepy Hollow Fire Protection District (SHFPD) is proud to announce that through our investment in prevention projects we have achieved national accreditation as a Firewise Community/USA®.  In addition, we have completed the first draft of our Wildfire Hazard and Wildland Urban Interface Area Assessment and Report.  The document is now available on our website (www.shfpd.org/firewise).  Highlights include: Comprehensive Risk and Hazard Assessment, Wildfire Preparedness and Planning, Public Education, Evacuation Preparation, Vegetation Management and Reducing Structural Ignitability.   We strongly encourage you to review this very comprehensive report and attend a planning meeting to be held at the Sleepy Hollow Community Center on Saturday, February 4 at 9:00AM.
