Sleepy Hollow Fire Protection District, as part of the implementation of its Strategic Plan, developed a proposed network of shaded fuel breaks, reduced fuel zones, and enhanced defensible space zones to reduce the hazard associated with vegetation fuels and provide ridgetop reduced fuel zones where firefighters may attempt to contain wildfires.
Beginning in 2017 with the fuel reduction along the Mather Fire Road and Fawn Drive, SHFPD has embarked on an ambitious partnership with several agencies and large landowners, including Marin County Parks and Open Space, San Domenico School, Triple C Ranch, and Rocking H Ranch to reduce fuels and create shaded fuel breaks. In spring 2018, a large scale ruminant (goat) grazing project will treat or reduce vegetation fuels on nearly 140 acres of land in and adjacent to Sleepy Hollow.
The map below outlines some fo the proposed project areas with general timelines for completion.
